Position: Lead Child Protection Practitioner
Location: Pinchbeck Road, South Holland, PE11 1QF
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Duration: 6+ Months
Working Hours: 36 hours per week
Pay Rate: £ 264.00 Per Day

Job Responsibilities
Promote consistency in child protection (CP) practice across the county, ensuring fair and equal service for families
Lead and improve the quality of multi-agency safeguarding decision-making and planning
Work closely with Practice Supervisors and Social Workers to support shared decision-making in complex cases
Provide accessible professional consultation to Social Workers to strengthen CP knowledge and practice
Build strong working relationships with partner agencies and support effective multi-agency collaboration
Liaise with Practice Supervisors to determine when a strategy discussion/meeting is required
Chair strategy discussions and lead decisions on Section 47 investigations
Oversee and monitor child protection investigations, ensuring timely information sharing across agencies
Support planning and decision-making on progression to Child Protection Conferences
Prepare and chair Child Protection Conferences, ensuring clear focus on risk and impact on the child
Meet parents, carers and significant family members before conferences to support engagement and transparency
Offer meetings to children and young people (aged 8+) to ensure their voice is heard and understood
Ensure access to independent advocacy for children and families attending CP meetings
Produce clear Child Protection Plans within 24 hours of conferences and meeting records within 15 working days
Maintain high-quality conference records that clearly explain concerns, risks and safety plans
Promote participation and inclusion of children and families in all safeguarding processes
Engage in quality assurance activity, including audits and case sampling to improve practice
Support learning and improvement through feedback, reflective discussions and group learning sessions
Chair additional safeguarding meetings, including supervision order reviews and short-term break reviews
Provide reflective case discussions and professional advice to practitioners and managers
Support improvements to safeguarding processes, documentation and multi-agency information sharing
Monitor safeguarding practice and escalate concerns regarding delay, drift or poor practice
Person Specification
Must-Have Requirements
Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England
Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience in children and families social work
Strong knowledge of child protection, looked after children, and safeguarding legislation and guidance
Experience of chairing complex, multi-agency meetings involving sensitive and challenging situations
Ability to analyse complex information and make clear, evidence-based decisions
Experience working in partnership with families, carers and multi-agency professionals
Strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills across all levels
Ability to provide expert professional advice to practitioners and managers
Commitment to promoting the voice and participation of children and young people
Strong understanding of safeguarding procedures and statutory responsibilities
Ability to manage conflict, challenge poor practice and maintain professional authority in meetings
Nice-to-Have Requirements
Experience in quality assurance, audits or service improvement activity
Experience working in or alongside Local Safeguarding Children Partnerships
Experience of developing or delivering training and professional development
Knowledge of children in care processes, including pathway planning and care planning systems
Experience in working with allegations against professionals (LADO processes)
Experience in policy or practice development within children’s services
